New Chair and new faces around the ROMA Board table 

  • Former ROMA First Vice Chair Christa Lowry, who is Mayor of Mississippi Mills, has moved in to the role of interim ROMA Chair, in place of Robin Jones, who has moved on to be AMO President.
  • Five AMO Board Rural Caucus members joined the ROMA board after the AMO Board election at its conference in August. The remainder are Zone representatives elected to four-year terms at the 2023 ROMA Conference. 

Visit from Ontario’s Rural Affairs Minister Thompson 

  • This summer, the Premier announced that Rural Affairs would separate from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. ROMA welcomes a focus on Rural Affairs and Minister Lisa Thompson attended the Board meeting for a "virtual" meet and greet.

Board endorses priorities 

  • Making sure smaller municipalities can access the infrastructure funding needed to build more homes in their communities
  • Improving access to both primary and hospital care for rural Ontarians in their communities
  • Responding to the unique and growing challenges of homelessness in rural communities
  • Continuing to be a vocal advocate and supporting rural municipalities to do their part on energy and broadband initiatives

2025 Conference: Rural Routes 

  • The 2025 ROMA Conference will be held from Sunday, January 19 to Tuesday, January 21, 2025 in Toronto.
