Request for Applications: ROMA Board of Directors, Zone 7 Vacancy
Please be advised that in accordance with the Rural Ontario Municipal Association’s (ROMA) Policies and Procedures, ROMA is requesting applications from municipal Council members to fill the Zone 7 Representative vacancy.
The Zone 7 Representative will be appointed by the ROMA Board for a term ending at the 2027 ROMA Annual General Meeting. Candidates reflecting Ontario’s diversity are encouraged to join the ROMA Board.
Submission Requirements
Applications must include a current resume/CV and a brief covering letter outlining your interest in the ROMA Board and an outline of your experience. You must also be prepared to attain a Council or Committee of the Whole supporting resolution (sample below) and provide prior to your appointment to the Board or your appointment will be conditional upon receipt of the resolution.

Your application materials must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023. All candidates will be contacted to confirm receipt of their application.

Qualifications
A qualified candidate for this position must be an elected official from ROMA Zone 7 whose municipal council is a member of AMO in good standing. Zone 7 municipalities include all single-tier, lower-tier, and upper-tier municipalities within the geographic boundaries of the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry. Every Director shall be:
• be an individual of eighteen (18) or more years of age;
• be an elected official of an AMO Member Municipality;
• not be an undischarged bankrupt; and
• not be declared incapable.
Sample Council Resolution
Be it resolved that the Council for <Municipality’s legal name> endorses <Candidate’s name & title> for the position of ROMA Zone 7 Representative for the 2023 – 2027 ROMA Board of Directors.
Time Commitment
ROMA Board meetings are typically held monthly on the second or third Friday of the month. The January meeting is held at the ROMA AGM and Conference and the August meeting is held at the AMO AGM & Conference. In addition, Board members may serve on sub-committees from time to time or asked to be a ROMA representative on others’ committees. Time for this will vary with the activity.
Expenses
ROMA Board members are entitled to a per diem of $92 per day (2022) when attending meetings on behalf of ROMA business, these meetings include the ROMA Board, committees and any other meetings where attendance has been pre-approved by the ROMA Chair. A per diem is not applicable to the ROMA mid-term meeting.
ROMA will reimburse travel expenses to all ROMA Board meetings and the Board Retreats (when held). Travel expenses refer to airfare, train fare and car mileage, parking costs, public transit, and accommodation. Meal costs will also be paid subject to a maximum of $85/day.
